Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Intermediate Care/Neuro Stepdown night shift position requiring 2+ years of relevant experience and prior travel experience.

Details

  • Neuro Stepdown/Intermediate Care unit combining neurological and medical intermediate patients
  • Patient ratio of 1:4 with unit census maxing at 24 patients
  • 12-hour night shifts, 18:45-07:15, with 36 or 48 hour options available
  • No call requirements
  • Float requirement to other intermediate areas (6A, 5A PCTU, 5C Cardiac Intermediate) and critical care/ICU/Stepdown as needed
  • Minimum 3 weekend shifts required every six weeks
  • Uses Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR charting/communication systems

Requirements

  • Active NC or Compact RN license required (pending license/certs OK for consideration)
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
  • Prior travel RN experience required (unit will not accept first-time travelers)
  • Neuro Stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown, and Telemetry experience required
  • Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
  • Preferred certifications: CCRN, TNCC, CPI
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Extensive clinical skills required including dysrhythmia management, IV insulin protocols, CBI, central/PICC line management, ventilator and tracheostomy care, and neuro-specific care (craniotomy, CVA, TBI, seizure disorders, lumbar drains, post-TPA care)
  • Must be able to titrate LEVO and other vasoactive/cardiac drips
  • Neuro experience strongly preferred; limited neuro background should be disclosed at time of consideration
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Additional Information

  • Provide intermediate-level nursing care to a neuro and medical intermediate patient population using cardiac monitoring, respiratory support, and wound care skills
  • Unit orientation includes 32 hours consisting of an 8-hour computer class plus two shifts of unit orientation following hospital orientation
  • Scrubs not provided; navy blue and white combinations required
  • Must demonstrate a strong teamwork approach and align with facility behavioral expectations in all patient and staff interactions
  • Call-off policy is strongly enforced with limited tolerance for absences
  • Contracts accepted from 16+ weeks with a hard stop of February 27, 2027 to support holiday coverage
  • Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
  • RTO of 7 days or less can be auto-approved (excluding holidays); no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
  • Former Novant Health/New Hanover PERM, PRN, or EP employees must wait 12 months before reapplying as a traveler, with facility rehire approval required
  • Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
  • Travel pairs allowed if placed on different units with separate transportation
