Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN with at least one prior travel assignment and 2+ years of ICU experience for a 39-bed mixed ICU treating complex medical, surgical, cardiac, and trauma patients.
Details
- Work in a 39-bed mixed ICU (MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU) divided into pods
- Treat complex ICU patients including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases with diagnoses such as ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, and multi-system trauma
- RN to patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2, and rarely 1:3 depending on acuity
- 12-hour day shift schedule totaling 48 hours per week
- Weekend rotation targeted at every other weekend, though not guaranteed
- No on-call requirements
- Floating uncommon but possible to any adult floor, including Medsurg/Tele at a 1:4 ratio, if overstaffed
- Would not float to the CVICU side unless experienced in that specialty
- Uses Epic charting system, Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter pumps in October), and Omnicell
Requirements
- Active RN license (SD or Compact) currently in hand
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC required (must be willing to obtain TNCC prior to arrival if not already certified)
- Completion of an approved nursing education program
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel experience, preferred
- Epic EMR experience required
- Experience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics
- Experience with hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry
- Strong critical thinking, assessment skills, and ability to work well in a fast-paced team setting
- Impella, IABP, and CRRT experience strongly preferred
- Cardiac experience (CABG/TAVR 24-48 hrs post-op) preferred but not required
- Comfortable working a 48-hour per week contract
Additional Information
- Provide critical care nursing to a complex ICU patient population in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Unit supported by 1-2 CNAs plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, 24/7 respiratory therapy, and on-site intensivists and APPs
- Peripheral blood draws performed by phlebotomy; ICU RNs place all midlines
- Orientation includes hospital orientation, department orientation with iLearns, and floor shifts, with an additional independent shift for 48-hour contract travelers
- May be expected to precept nursing students
- Navy scrub color required
- Free parking available
- Must reside at least 100 miles from any facility within the health system to qualify for the travel position
- Permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
- No RTO permitted during holidays or during the first three weeks of August (Sturgis Bike Rally)
- Time off requests of up to 7 days may be approved but must not shorten the required 13-week contract length

- First-time travelers will not be considered; at least one prior travel assignment is required
