Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring CA RN licensure and strong critical care skills.

Details

• 20-bed ICU in an acute care hospital setting
• 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio
• 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a) with 2 weekends per 4-week period
• Holiday coverage required as per unit needs
• Uses Cerner EMR
• Floating required to Med/Surg and Telemetry units with a 4-5 patient load; travelers float first
• Charge nurse resource available each shift without a patient assignment
• RT available 24/7 to manage ventilators; pharmacy also available 24/7
• Internal medicine hospitalists in house 24/7; pulmonologists serve as intensivists but not around the clock
• Floor-specific orientation includes 2 shifts in ICU and 1 shift on an outside unit
• May be placed on standby with a 30-minute response time if needed for ED overflow of boarded ICU patients

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• CCRN certification and basic critical care course preferred
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
• Strong IV insertion skills required
• Must be comfortable interpreting own telemetry strips (GE monitors)
• Must be comfortable managing ventilated patients and applying the ABCDE bundle
• Experience managing sepsis, DKA, hyperglycemia, COPD, GI bleeds, and post-surgical ICU recovery patients
• Comfortable administering sedation medications including Versed, Propofol, and norepinephrine
• Must be comfortable with full patient load while floating to other units

Additional Information

• Care for a diverse ICU patient population including sepsis, DKA, PN, COPD, PCI cardiac cases, CVA, and post-surgical recovery patients
• Facility is not currently a STEMI center and does not treat neuro patients in ICU
• Navy scrub color required
• No block scheduling or scheduling accommodations available for outside employment; travel assignment must be the priority
• Travelers are welcome to extend assignments up to their one-year mark
• First-time travelers may be considered
