Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a night shift acute care assignment requiring 2 years of ICU experience and CA RN licensure.

Details

• 8-bed ICU in an acute care hospital setting
• Primarily medical ICU patient population
• Patient ratios of 1:1-2
• Uses Cerner EMR
• Charge nurse generally does not take patients but assists with break relief
• Nurse aides available based on census and staffing needs
• 12-hour night shifts, 7pm-7:30am, with bedside report
• Every other weekend required
• Rotates holiday coverage in with core staff
• First to float to sister facilities and to the MedSurg unit at Woodland (up to 4 patients)
• Mid-shift floating to another facility is rare but possible
• Self-scheduling used, finalized by manager, with schedules posted 4 weeks out
• Telemetry monitoring required; must be able to read and interpret EKG strips
• Ventilator management required
• Hospitalist/Intensivist on site
• Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
• No dedicated IV team
• Horseshoe unit layout with PACU adjacent to ICU

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS certifications (AHA)
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
• BSN not required for this position
• Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to confirmed offer
• Must pass a sterile technique test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on first day of orientation
• Two supervisor/peer references required, one within the last 12 months worked and one within the last 3 years worked, including eligibility for rehire
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care to ICU patients including ventilator management and telemetry monitoring
• 1-2 days of floor-specific orientation with a preceptor
• Navy scrub color required; under shirts must be navy, white, or black, and scrub jackets if worn must be navy
• Will rotate to work 2 of the 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's)
• Holiday time off requests considered but not guaranteed
• Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment (3 shifts for shorter assignments)
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year; PRN employment through outside staffing firms is acceptable
• Good opportunity for a solid, experienced ICU RN traveler
