Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring at least 3 years of ICU experience and a CA RN license.

Details

  • Acute care setting in a 20-bed combined ICU/CCU unit
  • Patient ratios of 1:2, with some 1:1 assignments
  • Night shift schedule, 7p-7a, 12-hour shifts, self-scheduling with 36 guaranteed hours per week
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating required to IMCU (stepdown) or Observation units, with new hires floating first
  • Uses Cerner EMR
  • Charge nurse and nurse aide support available, including dedicated aide coverage 5-5:30pm for blood draws, EKGs, and tech duties
  • Philips telemetry monitors used, with nurses responsible for reading strips (no dedicated monitor tech)
  • In-house hospitalist/intensivist coverage available on call after hours
  • 24/7 respiratory therapy and pharmacy support available
  • No dedicated IV team
  • Cares for neurosurgical patients (craniotomies, carotids, ventriculostomies, ICP monitoring), open heart, post-cath, impella, and balloon pump patients
  • Manages vasoactive drips including vasopressin, levophed, norepinephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, propofol, and fentanyl
  • Manages ventilated patients
  • CRRT and ECMO not required
  • 3 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided

Requirements

  • Active CA RN license required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 3 years of ICU experience required
  • Cerner EMR experience preferred
  • Travel nursing experience preferred
  • General ICU experience required; candidates with neuro or cardiac-specific ICU experience will also be considered
  • Must be able to validate skills for specialized cases such as impellas and balloon pumps

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing to a mixed ICU/CCU patient population including neurosurgical, cardiac, and post-cath patients
  • Work alongside charge nurses and nurse aides for support with routine tasks
  • Holiday coverage required in line with permanent staff rotation, typically one major and one minor holiday
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Must pass a Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) prior to confirmed offer
  • Must pass a sterile technique test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on first day of orientation
  • Failure of Relias or sterile technique testing on second attempt results in a 6-month ineligibility period with this health system
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed by this health system within the past year
