Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week acute care assignment requiring a CA RN license and critical care experience.

Details

  • Acute care ICU with 32 staffed beds (licensed for 40), organized in pods of 8
  • Patient ratio of 2:1
  • EMR: Cerner
  • Charge Nurse role is staffed separately with no patient assignment; a Resource RN may also carry a patient assignment
  • Nurse aide support typically available on day shift
  • 12-hour day shifts (0630-1900 or 1830-0700), every other weekend required
  • First to float among staff, with floating to Tele units and ED ICU/Tele holds
  • In-house hospitalist or intensivist coverage, RT and pharmacy available 24/7
  • No IV team or dedicated monitor techs; RNs read and interpret their own telemetry strips

Requirements

  • Active CA RN license required
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required; 3 years preferred
  • Experience with vasoactive drips (pressors, antiarrhythmics, sedation) and ventilator management required
  • Experience with higher acuity patients including neuro, cardiac/PCI, sepsis, ETOH, and stroke cases
  • Familiarity with ventriculostomy, TBI, and Camino ICP monitoring preferred
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

  • Floor-specific orientation includes Day 1 with 8 hours with an ICU educator and 4 hours with a preceptor, followed by Day 2 with 12 hours alongside a preceptor
  • Utilizes huddle report and bedside report communication practices
  • Scrub color requirement: Navy Blue for RNs, Hunter Green for Nurse Aides
  • No acrylic nails or gel polish allowed during the assignment
  • Must be available to work 2 of the 3 major holidays, rotating with core staff
