Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a 12-hour day shift assignment requiring an active NE or compact RN license and at least 2 years of ICU experience.

Details

  • Acute care ICU setting within a Level 2 trauma hospital
  • 33-bed unit with an average daily census of 16
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2-3 for adult patients
  • Cares for adult patients with trauma, cardiac issues, overdose/substance abuse, sepsis, post-stent and pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular conditions, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation
  • Manages respiratory equipment ranging from nasal cannula to ventilators, troubleshooting as needed
  • Cardiac monitoring/telemetry required, including reading, interpreting, and documenting strips (GE monitors, with tele tech oversight)
  • Nurse aides and a Healthcare Support Tech (M-F, 0800-1630) provide support based on census
  • 12-hour day shifts scheduled 0630-1830
  • Self-scheduling available for core staff; block scheduling cannot be guaranteed for travelers
  • Every other weekend required (Saturday/Sunday)
  • Floating required, typically to PCU and occasionally MedSurg, at a 1:4 or 1:5 ratio
  • Minimum of 2 holidays worked if falling within the contract timeframe
  • One shift of unit/department-specific orientation provided
  • Uses EPIC EMR
  • Guaranteed 36 hours per week

Requirements

  • Active NE or Compact RN license required
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • BSN not required for this position
  • Must be able to titrate cardiac, insulin, and sedation drips
  • Experience with EPIC EMR
  • Driver's license required to confirm permanent residence

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care in a high-acuity ICU environment managing complex adult cases
  • Collaborate with nurse aides and healthcare support techs for patient care assistance based on census needs
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified by driver's license
  • Candidates may not have been employed full time, part time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-associated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove will result in contract termination
  • RNs must pass a pass/fail, open-book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%
  • On-call staff must be able to arrive within 30 minutes if called back in
  • Up to 7 days of requested time off allowed per 13-week contract; no additional RTO approved after submission
  • Block scheduling only considered for weekends
  • First-time travelers may be considered for this role
