Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a night shift assignment at a Level 2 trauma facility, requiring NE or compact RN licensure and drip titration experience.

Details

  • ICU setting within an acute care hospital with Level 2 trauma designation
  • 33-bed unit with an average daily census of 16
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2-3 for adults
  • Common diagnoses include trauma, cardiac conditions, overdose/substance abuse, sepsis, post-stent and pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress
  • RNs required to titrate drips including cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation
  • Nurse aides available based on census for 1:1 sitting or floor assistance, with a Healthcare Support Tech onsite M-F 0800-1630
  • RNs manage RT equipment from nasal cannula to ventilators, troubleshooting as needed
  • 12-hour night shifts scheduled 1830-0630
  • Self-scheduling used for core staff with travelers added in; block scheduling cannot be guaranteed unless weekends only
  • Cardiac monitoring/telemetry required, including reading, interpreting, and documenting strips; GE monitors used with tele tech oversight
  • Floating required, typically to PCU and occasionally MedSurg, at a 1:4 or 1:5 ratio
  • Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday)
  • Minimum of 2 holidays required to be covered if they fall within the contract timeframe
  • If placed on call, must be able to arrive within 30 minutes
  • EPIC EMR used

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NE state or Compact/NLC) required, pending licenses not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS (active, pending not accepted)
  • Acute care hospital ICU experience required
  • Experience titrating cardiac, insulin, and sedation drips required
  • Ability to read, interpret, and document telemetry strips required
  • Driver's license required at time of consideration to confirm permanent residence
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified by driver's license
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-associated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year; PRN employment through outside staffing firms is acceptable
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to remove them will result in contract termination
  • RNs must pass an open-book, pass/fail exam on Wednesdays during orientation, requiring a 90% score to continue in the assignment
  • One shift of unit-specific orientation provided
  • Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested upfront per 13-week contract; additional RTO requests will not be approved after submission
  • Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment, or 3 shifts for shorter assignments
  • Scheduling duos requesting the same schedule or sharing a car will not be accommodated
