ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated ICU Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality and compassionate care to patients in an intensive care unit setting.

Unit Information

• Type: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
• Number of Beds: 34
• Nurse to Patient Ratios: 1:1-2 in ICU; 1:4-5 in PCU; 1:5-6 in Med-Surg

Patient Population

The ICU serves a diverse patient population, including:

• Adults and pediatric patients over 15 years old
• Common diagnoses: Neuro surgery, respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke, cardiogenic shock, renal failure, general surgery, psychiatric emergencies, GI bleeds, and cancer-specific surgeries

Responsibilities

• Administer medications and monitor patients' responses and vital signs.
• Provide assistance with intubation and use of advanced life support equipment.
• Initiate protocols such as hypothermia protocols and manage transfusions.
• Titrate various drips, including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, and sedatives.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Participate in rapid response teams and code blue situations as required.

Required Qualifications

• At least 2 years of recent ICU experience.
• Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS.
• Valid driver's license.

Work Environment

This is a fast-paced unit that experiences volume fluctuations due to the nature of being a primary tertiary center in the region. Nurses should demonstrate critical thinking skills, a willingness to collaborate, and a positive attitude toward patient care.

Shift Details

• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirements: 2 out of 3 major holidays or as needed

Additional Information

• Orientation: 2 shifts of unit-specific training.
• Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs.
• Floating: Potential to float to all inpatient units, excluding maternity/NICU.
• RTO (Requests Time Off): 7 days or less per 13-week contract.
