Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in an 8-bed ICU setting with a standard 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio, which may adjust to 1:3 based on acuity or overflow/stepdown patients
  • Manage complex diagnoses including sepsis, ARDS, acute renal failure, cardiac dysrhythmias, post-operative complex care, overdose, and behavioral health medical complexities
  • Titrate drips including cardizem, propofol, amiodarone, norepinephrine, and precedex per protocol
  • Perform and maintain central line care, arterial line management, and assist with bedside bronchoscopy; respond to cardiac arrests following AHA guidelines
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team including 24/7 hospitalists, nocturnist coverage, critical care physicians (7am–7pm), and 24/7 respiratory therapy support
  • Float to Medical Surgical units at nearby campuses as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Active Illinois RN license, or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
  • ACLS certification required
  • Proficiency in central line care, arterial lines, bedside bronchoscopy, and cardiac arrest response per AHA guidelines
  • Experience titrating vasoactive and sedation drips in a critical care environment
  • Must be able to comply with a drug-free campus policy and produce a negative drug screen for all panels
  • Candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility may be subject to a local rate adjustment

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Prior ICU or critical care nursing experience with high-acuity patient populations
  • Familiarity with respiratory therapy equipment including ventilators, BiPAP, CPAP, and heated high-flow oxygen
  • Experience working in a unit supported by charge nurse and administrative supervisor structure
