ICU Registered Nurse (RN)
Position Overview
This position is for an ICU Registered Nurse who will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care to critically ill patients. The role includes monitoring patient conditions, administering medications, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Shift Information
- Shift: Nights
- Length: 12 hours
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Responsibilities
- Manage and provide care for patients with complex medical conditions including but not limited to COPD, pneumonia, CVA, TIA, DKA, sepsis, CHF, STEMI, and neuro conditions.
- Maintain a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2, with adjustments based on patient downgrades to a ratio of 1:5 for medical patients and 1:4 for PCU patients.
- Titrate medications including vasopressors, insulin, TNK, heparin, IV antibiotics, and sedatives as necessary.
- Read and interpret telemetry strips.
- Complete a pass/fail exam during orientation, requiring a minimum score of 90% to continue in the position.
- Participate in unit-specific orientation and training during the first week.
- Float to PCU and medical floors as needed.
Qualifications
- Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in critical care or intensive care settings is preferred.
- Active and valid RN license required.
- Driver's license required for verification of residence outside of a specified radius.
Work Environment
- Department: ICU
- Available equipment includes vents, BiPAPs, and related respiratory therapy tools.
- Support staff includes nurse aides/patient care techs, with specific support ratios based on patient census.
- Critical care coverage by hospitalist or intensivist available 24/7, including E-ICU staffed with nursing and advanced practice providers.
- Standard dress code includes navy blue scrubs.
Scheduling Requirements
- Weekend requirements: Every other weekend.
- Holiday requirements: Variable, based on department needs.
- Shift hours include 0630-1900 and 1830-0700.
- RTO (Request Time Off) should be communicated upfront with limited options for additional requests during the contract period.
