Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a Level 1 Trauma Center, requiring 3 years of recent ICU experience with a background in neuro or cardiovascular care.

Details

  • Level 1 Trauma Center Surgical ICU and Medical/Cardiac ICU with 32, 36, and 12-bed overflow units
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2 and 1:1
  • Day shift schedule with self-scheduling, subject to manager balancing for unit needs
  • Cerner EMR used for charting
  • Weekend requirement of 3 shifts per 4-week schedule (dayshift Sat-Sun, nightshift Fri-Sat)
  • May have 1 holiday off during the assignment
  • No standby or call requirements, though low census days may occur up to 3 times per contract
  • First to float among SICU, Medical/Cardiac ICU, and overflow ICU units, and to tele units at 1:3 or 1:4 ratio as needed
  • RNs required to titrate drips including propofol, fentanyl, versed, precedex, levophed, and others
  • Charge nurse does not take patients
  • 24/7 in-house hospitalist/intensivist and respiratory therapy coverage
  • RNs required to interpret their own telemetry strips using GE monitors
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Unit-specific orientation lasts 1-2 days

Requirements

  • Active AZ or Compact RN license required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 3 years of recent ICU experience required with 2 of those years in an ICU setting
  • Experience must include either neuro or cardiovascular care
  • Level 1 trauma or neuro ICU experience preferred but not required
  • Prior experience in a similarly sized ICU preferred
  • Must pass a UNA Dysrhythmia exam within 24-48 hours prior to acceptance of position, with a maximum of 2 attempts
  • Must pass a Sim Lab skills validation on Day 1 of orientation
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Care for Level 1 trauma patients including falls, GSW, blunt trauma, and MVAs, as well as post-surgical, neuro-surgical, and cardiovascular patients
  • Common diagnoses include CVA, sepsis, ARDS, COVID, on/off pump CABG, TAVR, IABP, Impella, and ECMO
  • Skills validation provided for trauma, neuro, and specialty device competencies as needed
  • No nurse aides on the unit except for sitters and health unit secretary duties
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year
  • Candidates with PRN experience through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
