```html ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

General Information

Position requires full floating between various units, including Intensive Care Units (ICUs), Progressive Care Units (PCUs), Critical Care Units (CCUs), and Emergency Departments (ED) holding. A minimum of 1 year of ICU experience is required. First-time travelers will be considered if they possess strong ICU and float pool experience.

Patient Types

Travelers can expect to care for patients with the following conditions:

  • COVID-19
  • Neuro, Trauma, Medical, Surgical patients
  • Conditions such as Sepsis, Pneumonia, DKA, DTs, Multi-system failure, and Spinal injuries
  • Pre/Post catheterization patients (radial approach)
  • General Surgery patients, Respiratory compromise, CHF, COPD
  • Trauma cases including GSW, stabbings, MVA, strokes, and TBIs
  • Various back surgeries

CVICU Responsibilities

In the Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CVICU), responsibilities include:

  • Caring for patients post-operatively from various cardiac procedures such as CABG, Esophagectomy, TAVR, AAA repair, Thoracic and Vascular surgeries, and post-cardiac arrest.

Patient Ratios

  • ICU: 1:2
  • PCU/ACC/CCU: 1:4
  • ED Holding: Same ratio based on patients' level of care

Certifications Required

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Essential Skills

Ideal candidates should possess the following skills:

  • Cardiac rhythm interpretation
  • Ventilator and BiPAP management
  • Invasive line management
  • Experience with ostomy, general drains, tracheostomies, chest tubes, lumbar drains, and IV medication titration

Support on the Unit

Healthcare professionals will have access to the following support:

  • Charge Nurse
  • Hospitalist
  • Respiratory Therapist (RT) and Intensivist available 24/7
  • Cardiologist on call 24/7 for CVICU and CCU cardiac short stay

Charting System

Experience with Epic charting system is required.

Scheduling

Schedules are typically created for a three-week period, released 7-10 days in advance. Expectations include:

  • Rotating weekends with every other weekend scheduled
  • Back-to-back weekend shifts may occur, although this is rare
  • No self-scheduling or guaranteed patterned schedule

Time Off

Requests for time off exceeding five days require manager approval.

Floating Requirements

Travelers may float to the following units as needed:

  • Neuro/Trauma/Medical/Cardiac ICU
  • CCU (Cardiac Step Down)
  • PCU/ACC
  • ED Holding
  • Med/Surg Units
  • Potentially to nearby facilities

Orientation

Orientation will consist of:

  • 1-day general hospital orientation
  • 1-day unit orientation (12 hours) in ICU
  • 1 additional day of 12 hours on similar units

Telemetry Competency

Completion and passing of the required telemetry competency before the start date is mandatory.
