Description

American Traveler is hiring a Nights RN for an ICU position requiring 18-24 months of ICU experience, NC or compact RN licensure, and NIHSS certification.

Details

  • Medical Intensive Care Unit with 10 ICU beds and 4 PCU beds (PCU used only in surge capacity)
  • Average daily census of 7.3 patients
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:2-3, acuity dependent, often including a mix of ICU and Med/Tele patients
  • CNA support available only on dayshift at 1:10 ratio
  • Common diagnoses include sepsis, COPD, CHF, chest pain, MI, NSTEMI, stroke, TIA, new onset cardiac arrhythmia, uncontrolled DM/DKA, minor trauma, ETOH withdrawal, ARDS, and respiratory illnesses
  • 12-hour night shifts (1900-0700), 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation required, at minimum every other weekend
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • Floating required within Stanly to Med/Tele, ICU, PCU, ED holds, and Behavioral Health (med pass/charting only)
  • Floating required to Region 1 facilities as needed, within scope of practice, including Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division (CMC Main, Mercy, LCH peds only)
  • EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors used

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) currently in hand
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • 18 months to 2 years of ICU RN experience required
  • Minimum 12 months of core work experience in unit specialty area, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Stroke experience and NIH assessments required
  • Skills required include cardiac rhythm interpretation, arterial line and CVP management, critical care drip management, chest tube care, PIV starts, vent management support, trach care, NGT placement, drain/tube management, PCA pumps, wound care, and 12-lead EKG completion
  • Experience with medication gtt management including critical care gtts, cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF
  • TNK administration experience preferred if not given in ED
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care in a high-acuity ICU setting within a non-trauma, non-teaching hospital
  • Support structure includes House Supervisor, Charge Nurse, 24/7 Respiratory Therapy, 24/7 Hospitalist coverage, and an Intensivist rounding Monday-Friday
  • Hospitalist is first call for intubation, followed by CRNA, then ED as third line
  • RNs are responsible for bedside and central tele monitoring for the unit
  • Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) and 2-3 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays
  • RTO requires manager approval
  • Schedule operates on a 6-week cycle
  • Scrub color is navy with white or navy undershirts only; no t-shirts or Crocs allowed
  • Unit culture is teamwork oriented with an emphasis on open communication and constructive feedback
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible for the position
  • Returning travelers must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
