ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Unit Overview

• Number of Beds: 16
• Patient Ratios: 2:1, with the possibility of 1:1 or 3:1 based on patient acuity and staffing levels
• Unit Staffing: Unit secretary available during dayshift; occasional nurse externs working as techs
• Equipment Utilized: Ventilators, EVDs, CRRT, SLED, EV 1000
• Documentation System: Meditech

Scheduling Information

• Minimum weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per schedule
• Schedules are created in 4-week increments with some self-scheduling opportunities
• The manager may adjust shifts to balance staffing needs

Floating Policy

Contract labor is the first to float. In case of staffing needs in medical/surgical units, contract labor may be expected to float and accept assignments in those areas.

Patient Care Expectations

Provide attentive and compassionate care to patients and their families, ensuring a positive experience for all.

Required Certifications

• ACLS
• BLS

Qualifications

• Active RN License
• ICU experience required

Advanced Skills

Candidates should possess skills in the following procedures performed on the unit:

• Insertion of central lines
• Insertion of arterial lines
• Performing lumbar punctures
• Chest tube insertions
• Insertion of external ventricular drains (EVDs)

Dress Code

Required uniform: Navy scrubs, tops, and bottoms.
