ICU Registered Nurse – 12-Hour Nights

Shift: 12-hour Nights
Schedule: 6:30 PM–6:30 AM
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week
Setting: Acute Care | Trauma Level II
Contract: 13 weeks
Important – 50-Mile Radius Rule:
- Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius
- Driver’s license required at submission and used to verify the radius
- Candidates cannot currently be full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity
Required Certifications:
- BLS
- ACLS
- NIHSS
- RN license required for submission
- BSN not required
Unit Details:
- 33 beds
- Average daily census: 16
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2–3
- Patient population includes adults with:
- Trauma
- Cardiac conditions
- Overdose/substance abuse
- Sepsis
- Post-stent and pacemaker placement
- Stroke
- Vascular cases
- Renal failure
- Heart failure
- Respiratory distress
Clinical Requirements:
- RNs are required to titrate drips
- Common drips include cardiac medications, insulin, and sedation
- RNs monitor, interpret, and document telemetry strips
- Monitor system: GE
- Telemetry tech provides monitor oversight
- Respiratory equipment includes vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow
- RNs may troubleshoot respiratory equipment as needed
Staffing & Support:
- Nurse aides available based on census
- Healthcare Support Tech available 3 days/week, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
- Nurse aides may sit 1:1 patients or assist on the unit based on volume
Scheduling:
- 6:30 AM–6:30 PM / 6:30 PM–6:30 AM
- Self-scheduling available for core staff; travelers are added afterward
- Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Minimum 2 holidays required if they fall within the contract
- No duos requesting the same schedule or sharing a vehicle
- If placed on call and called back in, nurse must arrive within 30 minutes
Floating:
- Typically to PCU
- Occasionally to Med-Surg
- Traveler will generally take the same ratios assigned on those units:
- PCU: approximately 1:4
- Med-Surg: approximately 1:5
Orientation:
- 1 shift of unit-specific orientation
- Wednesday orientation exam: open-book exam covering skills learned
- Minimum 90% score required to pass
RTO Policy:
- RTO must be submitted upfront
- Maximum 7 days of RTO for a 13-week contract
- Additional RTO will not be approved after submission
Other Important Policies:
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient-care departments. Refusal to remove them may result in contract termination.
- EMR: Epic
- Facility may cancel up to 4 shifts during a 13-week assignment.
