Description

American Traveler is hiring an ICU RN for a float pool position requiring 1+ year of ICU experience and WA or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Float pool position covering all ICUs, PCU/CCUs, and ED holding within the facility
  • Occasional floating to a nearby sister hospital (~2.5 miles away) with advance notice
  • Cares for patients with COVID, neuro, trauma, medical, and surgical conditions including sepsis, pneumonia, DKA, multi-system failure, spinal injuries, strokes, TBI, and post-cath patients
  • CVICU patients include post-op CABG, esophagectomy, TAVR, AAA repair, and thoracic/vascular surgeries
  • Not expected to care for fresh CABG/TAVR, EVDs, post-TPA patients, or patients on ECMO, IABP, Impella, or hypothermia protocol devices
  • ICU patient ratio is 1:2; PCU/ACC/CCU ratio is 1:4; ED holding ratios based on patient acuity
  • 12-hour night shifts, working every other weekend with occasional back-to-back weekends
  • Schedules are built in 3-week blocks with no self-scheduling or guaranteed patterned schedule
  • Epic charting system used, experience required

Requirements

  • Active WA state or compact RN license
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 1 year of ICU experience required
  • Strong ICU and float pool experience required for first-time travelers to be considered
  • Skilled in cardiac rhythm interpretation, vent and BiPAP management, invasive line management, ostomy and drain care, tracheostomy and chest tube care, lumbar drain management, and IV medication titration
  • Must complete and pass a telemetry competency exam prior to start

Additional Information

  • Supported by charge nurse, hospitalist, RT, and intensivist coverage 24/7, with cardiologist on call for CVICU, CCU, and cardiac short stay
  • Orientation includes 1 day of general hospital orientation, 1 day of unit orientation, and 1 additional day on like units
  • Responsibilities include maintaining whiteboards, hourly rounding documentation, and bedside shift report
  • Must follow medication safety protocols including two-nurse verification for wasting controlled substances and proper pain medication documentation timing
  • Scrubs of any professional color are permitted
  • Free parking available in designated areas
  • Time off requests beyond 5 days require manager approval
  • First-time travelers considered with strong ICU and float pool background
