Job Summary

The Histology Technician plays a vital role in the pathology department by assisting with the instruction of Clinical Laboratory Science students, pathology residents, and new employees. This position serves as a technical resource, responsible for entering testing information into computerized databases and troubleshooting any issues related to equipment, patient results, specimens, and workflow.

Responsibilities

Prepare tissue slides through processing, embedding, sectioning, examining, and staining tissues received from surgical pathology, autopsy, hematology, cytology, and research areas.
Report results of testing to healthcare providers and consult with them regarding test results.
Investigate and resolve problems with equipment and workflow efficiently.
Participate in teams or perform special projects and assignments as needed.
Assist in the instruction of Clinical Laboratory Science students and new staff members.

Required Skills & Experience

Associate's degree with one (1) year of relevant experience, or
Completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program (no prior experience required).

Required Education

Associate's Degree in biological, chemical, or related science (with completion of CLIA required courses), or
Completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program.

Certifications & Licensure

HT(ASCP) certification is required; ASCP certification is highly preferred but not mandatory.

Schedule

Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
