Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Hematology/Oncology position at a pediatric teaching hospital requiring bone marrow transplant and chemotherapy administration skills.

Details

  • Hematology/Oncology unit within a children's hospital, including an outpatient adult program
  • Cares for patients with leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and other blood dyscrasias
  • Patient ratio of 1:2
  • Performs cell and gene therapy, blood product, and chemotherapy/conditioning treatment administration
  • Provides supportive care and triage services
  • Day shift schedule, 4x12 hours, 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
  • Requires working every other weekend
  • On-call responsibilities required

Requirements

  • Active Michigan (MI) RN license required at time of consideration; compact licenses not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience required
  • BLS certification required
  • Chemotherapy certification (ONS/ONCC) and OCN certification preferred
  • Prior Bone Marrow Transplant experience preferred, including cell administration
  • Charge nurse experience preferred
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Skilled in IV therapy, infusions, and port access/management
  • Experience with central line and PICC line care
  • Skilled in biotherapy, immunotherapy, and cytotoxic therapy administration
  • Experience with CAR-T and stem cell therapies preferred
  • Proficient in chemotherapy administration, monitoring, and cytotoxic spill management
  • Able to recognize and manage oncologic emergencies including anaphylaxis, extravasation, and sepsis
  • Skilled in symptom management for chemotherapy side effects
  • Knowledgeable in neutropenic precautions and isolation/PPE protocols
  • Phlebotomy and telephone triage skills required
  • Two manager or supervisor references required; charge nurse references not accepted

Additional Information

  • Provides direct patient care in bone marrow transplant, infusion center, inpatient, and outpatient oncology settings
  • Offers psychosocial support including patient and family education
  • Coordinates care across the oncology care team
  • All required certifications must be obtained prior to start date
  • Onboarding modules are completed onsite during orientation; no pre-hire modules required
  • First-time travelers are accepted for this position
  • Local candidates are accepted at the travel rate
  • Former permanent employees may return as travelers after one year, provided they left in good standing
  • Traveler pairs are not accepted
  • All requested time off must be submitted upfront, with no RTO permitted during the first week of the assignment
