Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care in a 21-bed Emergency Department serving patients of all ages.
  • Maintain an average nurse-to-patient ratio of approximately 1:4.
  • Perform comprehensive assessments, triage, monitoring, and reassessment of emergency patients.
  • Care for patients presenting with:
    • Chest pain
    • Abdominal pain
    • Cough/congestion
    • Orthopedic injuries
    • ENT emergencies
    • Sepsis
    • Stroke
    • Other acute medical and emergency conditions
  • Provide care in a certified stroke center and follow appropriate stroke-care protocols.
  • Administer medications and emergency treatments, including antibiotics, narcotics, anti-emetics, vaccines, and emergency medications.
  • Recognize changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions or escalation of care.
  • Stabilize patients requiring higher levels of specialty care and coordinate transfers to other facilities when necessary.
  • Collaborate with physicians, charge nurses, ED staff, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Maintain accurate patient documentation in EPIC.
  • Follow infection-control, patient-safety, and emergency department policies.
  • Demonstrate compassion, professionalism, teamwork, and a positive can-do attitude.
  • Be willing to cross-train and cover charge nurse responsibilities occasionally.
  • Participate in department orientation and successfully complete the required competency examination.
  • Work every other weekend and required holidays.

Requirements Minimum 2 years of Emergency Room/ED nursing experience required. Current RN license; license available for submission. BLS/AHA certification required. ACLS certification required. NIHSS certification required. PALS certification required. NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) listed as a required certification. Strong emergency nursing assessment and critical-thinking skills. Experience caring for patients across all age groups preferred. Stroke-center experience preferred. Must be comfortable working in a smaller ED with fewer specialty resources. Must be able to stabilize and transfer patients when specialty services are unavailable. Must be willing to cross-train for occasional charge nurse coverage. Must successfully pass the facility's open-book competency exam with a minimum score of 90% during orientation. Failure to achieve 90% may result in termination. Must have a valid driver's license at submission; it will be used to verify the 50-mile radius requirement. Must live 50+ miles from the facility according to the facility's radius rule. Cannot currently be working full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit/CHI/Dignity facility. Artificial nails are prohibited in patient-care departments and must be removed before working. Must submit RTO upfront, limited to 7 days or less for a 13-week assignment. Additional RTO will not be approved after submission. Must be willing to work 12-hour night shifts. Must work every other weekend and holidays as required. Must complete 2 shifts of department-specific orientation.
