Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Emergency Department RN for a Level 1 trauma center, requiring IL licensure and multiple emergency certifications for night shift coverage.

Details

• Level 1 trauma center Emergency Department with 65 all-private beds, including 2 trauma bays
• Acute care setting treating patients ranging from newborns to the elderly with a wide variety of complaints, from minor to critically ill
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:3-5, variable based on acuity and departmental needs
• Frequent care of critically ill patients, including cardiac arrest, strokes, and heart attacks
• Level 1/2 trauma patients cared for by a specialized trauma team; travelers may care for these patients once stabilized and transferred to a pod
• Responsible for titrating a wide variety of drips including vasopressors, cardiac drips, and antihypertensives
• Uses EPIC EMR
• Uses Phillips cardiac monitors; nurses must interpret and act on rhythms, with orientation provided
• 12-hour night shift schedule
• Every other weekend rotation required, with weekend days varying by shift
• Every other holiday required, negotiable based on contract
• No call or standby requirements
• Rare floating possible to other units as a 'help all,' without taking a patient assignment

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
• BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications required
• ENPC or PALS and TNCC or TNS also acceptable per unit requirements
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
• Prior travel assignment experience preferred
• SANE RN experience preferred
• Experience working in a teaching hospital with residents preferred
• Proficiency with vasopressor and cardiac drip titration required
• Must be able to pass a drug screen for all panels as OSF is a Drug-Free Campus

Additional Information

• Nurses draw their own labs along with ED techs, though boarders may have labs drawn by phlebotomy
• Respiratory therapists assist with ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow equipment, though RNs should be able to troubleshoot as needed
• Radiology staff or transport handle patient transport for X-ray or CT
• 2 charge nurses per shift, one managing incoming patients/telemetry radios and the other managing departmental needs; both may assist as a second nurse for traumas or critical patients
• House supervisor available 24/7
• ED techs present on each shift at a 1:9 ratio
• Minimum of 3 attending physicians staffed at all times, with mid-level coverage varying by time of day
• Scrubs may be any tasteful color with solid colored shirts underneath
• Local rate available for clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility, with no radius rule affecting eligibility
• COVID vaccination is not required
