Travel Nursing Job Details

- Schedule: Three or four shifts per week may be accepted based on department needs; 36- or 48-hour schedules
- Shift Duration: 12-hour shifts
- Shift Times: Rotating nights and evenings, approximately 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m. or 3:00 p.m.–3:30 a.m.; current primary need is for night shifts
- Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend required
- Holidays: Required as scheduled
- Orientation: 24 hours
- Patient Population: Neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
- Patient Ratio: Typically 1:4, with up to 1:5 for lower-acuity assignments
Emergency Department RN Job Requirements
- At least 2 years of recent Emergency Department Registered Nurse experience
- Previous charge nurse experience required
- Community hospital experience required
- Current Maryland RN license or a valid Compact RN license
- Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and CPI certifications; AHA certification is required for BLS, ACLS, and PALS
- NRP and TNCC certifications preferred
- Recent Epic electronic health record (EHR) charting experience required
- Ability to care for patients with complex medical, surgical, behavioral health, and trauma-related needs
- Flexibility to float within the Emergency Department specialty and to nearby affiliated emergency departments as needed
- Current influenza vaccination required according to assignment policy
- First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply
Emergency Nursing Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive emergency nursing care to patients of all ages and acuity levels
- Perform rapid assessments, triage, reassessments, and timely escalation of changes in patient condition
- Manage a broad range of conditions, including respiratory infections, asthma, CVA, seizures, overdose, hyperglycemia, sickle cell crisis, acute psychosis, suicidal ideation, and multisystem organ dysfunction
- Administer emergency medications, blood products, IV medications, vasopressors, sedation, and continuous paralytics as indicated
- Provide care for ventilated patients and patients requiring BiPAP/CPAP, central line management, chest tube management, splinting, and other emergency interventions
- Obtain and interpret 12-lead ECGs, monitor dysrhythmias, and support time-sensitive stroke and cardiac care
- Initiate and maintain IV access, perform phlebotomy, and collect accurate diagnostic specimens
- Apply appropriate isolation precautions and personal protective equipment while promoting patient and staff safety
- Support behavioral health patients, manage potentially violent behavior safely, and follow psychiatric hold procedures
- Document assessments, interventions, responses, and care plans accurately in Epic
- Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapy, radiology, pharmacy, social services, physical therapy, interpreters, and other members of the healthcare team
- Participate in charge nurse responsibilities and maintain a calm, organized approach in a high-volume Emergency Department
