Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in a high-volume Emergency Department and Trauma setting, managing up to 88,000 patients per year
  • Maintain a 1:4 patient ratio across acute and subacute ED areas; trauma bays are staffed by core personnel only
  • Perform and maintain competency in skills including Foley catheter insertion and port-a-cath insertion, with strict adherence to sterile field technique
  • Monitor patients using Phillips telemetry monitors; must be able to read and interpret cardiac strips
  • Document and manage patient care using Cerner EMR
  • May be floated mid-shift to sister facilities within approximately 30 minutes of the primary location; personal vehicle required

Required Qualifications

  • Active RN license with a minimum of 6 months of Trauma Level 1 experience
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS (ENPC is not accepted as a substitute for PALS)
  • Ability to pass a competency exam prior to acceptance of the assignment; two attempts permitted
  • Ability to pass a Day 1 orientation exam and SIMs Lab skills assessment (pass/fail); strict sterile field technique is expected
  • Must meet facility appearance standards: natural hair color, no facial piercings; male nurses must be clean-shaven for fit testing
  • Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • 2 or more years of Emergency Room experience
  • Preferred certifications: TNCC and/or ATCN
  • Experience with psychiatric hold patients and high-acuity trauma populations including burns and spinal cord injuries
  • Familiarity with Cerner EMR in a fast-paced ED environment
