Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring 2 years of ER experience and an active MD or Compact RN license.

Details

  • Emergency Department setting with combined adult/pediatric and pediatric emergency care
  • Patient population ranges from pediatric to geriatric
  • 40 beds with an average daily census of 30 and a 1:4 patient ratio
  • Diagnoses include respiratory, cardiac, chest pain, MI, STEMI, non-STEMI, stroke, and OH surgical cases
  • STEMI and Stroke Certified facility with TPA administration capability
  • Psychiatric patients treated in the ED, sometimes up to 6 of 40 patients
  • Trauma center located 10 minutes away, with some MVA and fracture cases seen onsite
  • Night shift, 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts (19:00-07:30)
  • Every other weekend and holiday coverage required
  • Floating required within scope, with travelers floating first
  • Epic charting system preferred

Requirements

  • Active RN license (MD state or Compact) required
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required (AHA only)
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
  • CPI certification required (Calm Every Storm online version only accepted)
  • Minimum 2 years of ER RN experience required
  • ENPC certification preferred
  • Teaching hospital and community hospital experience preferred
  • Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and starting/maintaining IVs
  • Experience managing psychiatric patients, including acute psychosis, suicidal patients, and violent behavior
  • Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and 12-lead EKG/ECG
  • Skilled in triage, isolation precautions/PPE, and orthopedic splinting
  • Experience with respiratory care including BiPAP/CPAP and ventilated patients
  • Central line care and arterial line management preferred
  • Blood product administration and IV vasopressor experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Provide emergency care across a broad range of pediatric and adult conditions including respiratory infections, seizures, sickle cell crisis, and head injuries
  • Support stroke and STEMI protocols including CVA management and emergency medication administration
  • Identify and report signs of neglect or abuse
  • Manage patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
  • First-time travelers will be considered, though travel experience is preferred
  • Return travelers must be away from the health system for at least 6 months before returning
  • Former staff must be separated from the health system for 12 months before returning as a traveler
  • Most locations allow one contract and one extension before requiring a 6-month break from the facility/unit
  • Maximum RTO request is 7 days; requests of more than 4 consecutive days require an additional week added to the contract
  • One major holiday off may be allowed during the winter season
  • Candidates must reside 50+ miles from the facility unless local acceptance is specifically stated
  • Schedule restrictions cannot be requested or guaranteed
