  • Patient Population: Neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
  • Typical Patient Ratio: Approximately 4:1
  • Technology: EPIC documentation and Omnicell medication management
  • Orientation: 36 hours

Emergency Department Travel Nurse Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
  • At least 1 year of recent Emergency Department nursing experience; 2 years of overall RN experience is strongly preferred
  • At least 1 year of recent EPIC experience
  • Current ACLS, BLS, CPI or MAB, NIHSS, and PALS certifications
  • TNCC certification preferred
  • Demonstrated competency in adult and pediatric emergency care
  • Ability to provide care for patients with medical, trauma, psychiatric, behavioral health, and other emergent conditions
  • Willingness to float to other qualified units or locations when needed
  • Flu vaccination required

Emergency Room Registered Nurse Responsibilities

  • Perform rapid triage, focused assessments, reassessments, and stabilization of emergency patients
  • Deliver safe, timely nursing care across the lifespan, from neonates and pediatrics through older adults
  • Recognize and respond to acute changes in patient condition, including stroke, STEMI, respiratory distress, seizures, overdose, shock, and traumatic injury
  • Initiate and maintain IV access, administer emergency medications, manage blood products, and monitor IV vasopressors
  • Provide care for ventilated patients and support BiPAP/CPAP, intubation, procedural sedation, and continuous IV sedation processes
  • Perform or assist with 12-lead EKGs, phlebotomy, splinting, wound care, isolation precautions, and chest tube or central line management
  • Monitor cardiac rhythms and respond appropriately to dysrhythmias and other critical findings
  • Support patients experiencing psychiatric emergencies, suicidal ideation, violent behavior, or acute behavioral health conditions using safe de-escalation practices
  • Document assessments, interventions, patient responses, and care plans accurately in EPIC
  • Collaborate with respiratory services, radiology, pharmacy, rapid response teams, providers, and other members of the care team
  • Float to other units when requested, performing only duties within documented competencies
