  • Schedule: 4 shifts per week; 36- or 48-hour options may be available
  • Weekend Requirement: Two weekend shifts during the contract
  • Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:4
  • Department Profile: Approximately 100 visits per day in a 22-room Emergency Department
  • Electronic Medical Record: Epic experience required
  • Orientation: 24 hours

Emergency Department RN Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kansas or a compact state, valid at the time of submission
  • At least 2 years of recent Emergency Department or Emergency Room nursing experience
  • Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications in hand at the time of submission
  • Recent Epic charting experience
  • Strong patient assessment, clinical prioritization, and emergency response skills
  • Ability to care for adult and pediatric emergency patients within scope of practice
  • Ability to float to comparable units within scope of practice, as needed
  • First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply

Emergency Room RN Responsibilities

  • Perform rapid triage, focused nursing assessments, ongoing monitoring, and reassessments for emergency patients
  • Provide evidence-based emergency care for conditions including DKA, CHF, STEMI, stroke, respiratory infections, overdose, behavioral health emergencies, and SI/HI concerns
  • Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition, including dysrhythmias, sepsis, multisystem organ dysfunction, and respiratory failure
  • Administer emergency medications, IV therapies, blood products, sedation, and vasopressors according to orders and policy
  • Manage patients requiring ventilatory support, BiPAP/CPAP, intubation, and continuous sedation or paralytics
  • Perform or assist with care involving central lines, arterial lines, chest tubes, splints, 12-lead EKGs, and procedural sedation
  • Provide compassionate nursing care to patients experiencing trauma, acute psychiatric concerns, seizures, sickle cell crisis, and other emergent conditions
  • Collaborate with respiratory therapy, radiology, pharmacy, rapid response, IV, social services, and other support teams
  • Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, responses to treatment, and transitions of care in Epic
  • Support a safe, respectful environment for patients, families, and the care team
