Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an ER Float Pool position in Kansas, requiring active KS or compact licensure, TNCC, and a willingness to float across a 60-mile zone on night shifts.

Details

  • Float pool position covering emergency departments across Zone 4 in Kansas, centered around Garden City — no home base facility is assigned
  • Zone 4 includes three ED locations: one in Garden City, one in Dodge City (~54 miles from zone center), and one in Ulysses (~54 miles from zone center)
  • All facilities are non-trauma designated but serve as STEMI receiving centers and stroke centers with send-outs for higher acuity cases
  • Common patient diagnoses include abdominal pain, DM, NSTEMI, pneumonia, trauma, stroke, and HTN
  • Daily ED volume ranges from 6–49 patients depending on location
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4–5 based on acuity
  • Charting is done via Epic
  • 12-hour night shifts
  • Every other weekend required
  • Every other holiday required
  • Floating throughout all Zone 4 ER locations is required for all travelers in this role
  • No on-call or standby requirement

Requirements

  • Active KS RN license or compact (NLC) license currently in hand — pending licenses are not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Required certifications (all must be active, AHA-issued where applicable): BLS, ACLS, ENPC or PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC
  • Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips independently (no monitor techs on unit)
  • Candidates must permanently reside at least 60 miles from the Garden City, KS zone center — a driver's license is required for consideration to verify permanent address
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, each including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

  • Travelers will be notified of their specific float assignment (which facility they are working at) on or before their Monday start date each schedule cycle
  • Travelers are responsible for securing housing that allows them to feasibly float throughout the full 60-mile zone radius, regardless of where they choose to stay
  • Techs are available on the unit to support nursing staff, assist with triage, and perform unit secretary duties
  • RT is available 24/7 in the ER
  • Point-of-care lab testing training is provided, and RNs are expected to perform POC lab draws
  • Orientation is 2–3 days in duration, and travelers must be physically present in-state during the orientation week even if initial modules are completed remotely
  • Schedule is determined by leadership based on unit needs
  • Dress code: navy blue scrubs
  • Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year are not eligible — candidates placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
