Job Summary:
Emergency Room (ER) registered nurse position available in a level 1 trauma center. This role involves providing critical nursing care to a diverse patient population, ranging from newborns to the elderly, including trauma, cardiac, stroke, and other acute conditions. The position requires adaptable nurses who are proficient in managing complex cases and titrating critical drips.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: 12-hour shifts with shift times available at 7a, 8a, 9a (day shift), 10a, 11a, 12p, 1p, 3p (mid shift), and 7p (night shift). Positions are not day/night rotating.
  • Required Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC).
  • Education, Licenses, and Experience: Active Illinois nursing license or confirmation that application process has been initiated; minimum of 2 years of ER nursing experience; at least 1 prior travel assignment; ability to interpret telemetry strips; familiarity with Phillips monitors.
  • Department: Emergency Room
  • Patient Ratios: 1:3-5, variable based on acuity or department needs.
  • Common diagnoses/patient types include trauma, cardiac emergencies, strokes, critical illness, and general ED cases.
  • Additional operational details include working with a team of physicians and mid-level providers, charge nurses managing patient flow, ED techs, and respiratory therapists.
  • Float requirements are rare but may be assigned as "help all" on other units, though not routinely.
  • Shift notes: Schedule is consistent with every other weekend requirement, holiday rotation negotiable, and no call or standby duties.
  • Other notes: No specific scrub color required; healthcare professionals will utilize EPIC charting system.
