Job Summary
Emergency Room (ER) Nurse in Austin, TX Provides direct patient care within a Level 1 trauma teaching emergency department. Ensures the delivery of high-quality nursing care and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate patient treatment and discharge planning.
Job Details
- Position Description: Provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocols of the healthcare organization. Implements and monitors patient care plans. Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate. Serves as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care. Notes and carries out physician and nursing orders. Assesses and coordinates patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
- Complexity of Work: Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment.
- Personal Protective Equipment: Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
- Required Qualifications: Registered Nurse credentialed from the Texas Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. One or more of the following: Advanced Life Support obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date. Allow in lieu of Instructor of Advanced Life Support. American Heart Association. BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date. Allow in lieu of Instructor of Basic Life Support. American Heart Association. Instructor specializing in Pediatric Adv Life Support obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date. Allow in lieu of Pediatric Advanced Life Support. American Heart Association. Instructor specializing in Advanced Cardio Life Support obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Allow in lieu of Advanced Life Support. American Heart Association. Certified Instructor specializing in Basic Life Support obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date. Allow in lieu of Basic Life Support. American Heart Association. Pediatric Advanced Life Support obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date. Allow in lieu of Instructor of Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
- Schedule: Days shift, 12-hour shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week.
- Additional Information: As of September 16, 2026, the role is based in a Level 1 trauma teaching facility in downtown Austin, with a 53-bed emergency department handling 55,000-60,000 patient visits annually. Staffing includes nursing, clerk, transporter, PCT mix, with inpatient holding/boarding likely. Nursing staff wear navy scrubs. Utilizing Cerner for electronic health records.
