Unit Overview

  • Number of Beds: 101

  • Typical Patient Ratio: 4:1 for medical patients

  • Behavioral Health Holds: Up to 7:1

  • Department Volume: High-volume Emergency Department

  • Equipment: Baxter IV pumps, Client monitors

Staffing & Support

  • Techs available throughout the department

  • Cardiac Monitoring Unit support

  • Internal Processing Area support

  • Triage support

  • Unit clerks available on both day and night shifts

Scheduling Requirements

  • Every other weekend

  • Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed

  • Schedule must accommodate the needs of the department

  • No floating outside the ED

  • Travelers must be flexible to work in all sections within the ED

Patient Experience Expectations

Staff are expected to consistently demonstrate:

  • AIDET communication

  • Respectful and compassionate behavior

  • Individualized patient experience

  • Keeping patient boards updated

  • Providing patients with regular updates throughout their visit

Hiring Profile

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience

  • At least 1 year of Emergency Department experience

  • Experience in a Level II Trauma Center preferred/required per hiring profile

  • Experience in a high-volume ED with 100,000 annual visits

  • Comprehensive Stroke Center experience

  • Previous HCA experience preferred

Must-Have Qualities

  • Strong teamwork mentality

  • Ability to coach and provide real-time feedback

  • Flexible and willing to work throughout all areas of the ED

  • Comfortable working in a high-volume, fast-paced environment

Required Certifications

All required certifications must be completed before the start date unless otherwise specified:

  • BLS

  • ACLS

  • PALS

  • TNCC

  • CPI

  • NIHSS

  • ENPC – required within 90 days of hire

Dress Code

  • Navy Blue scrubs

  • Follow all facility hygiene and professional appearance requirements

Unit Guidelines & Policies

  • Attendance policy will be provided on Day 1

  • Travelers must follow all department and facility policies

Floating

  • No floating outside the Emergency Department

  • Travelers must be willing to float/work across all sections within the ED
