Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Level I Emergency Department position requiring critical care experience and trauma certifications, with AL or compact license required.

Details

  • 71-bed Emergency Department at a Level I Trauma facility
  • Patient population includes multi-system trauma, STEMI, stroke, CHF, COPD, GI, GU, OB/GYN, pediatrics, and psychiatric cases
  • Receives transfers from other facilities
  • Patient ratios: 1:4 ER, 1:5 MS Holds, 1:3 ICU Holds
  • EMR: Cerner
  • IV pumps: Plum 360, medication dispensing via Omnicell, monitors by Spacelabs
  • 12-hour night shifts, 48 hours per week, with shift start times of 7a, 7p, 11a, or 3p
  • 4-week schedule cycle
  • Weekend rotation required (every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month on block schedule)
  • No floating required
  • No on-call requirements
  • Unit supported by CNAs (1:12 ratio), charge nurse, receptionist/HUC, phlebotomy (until 0300), IV/VAT team, and hospitalist

Requirements

  • Active RN license (AL or Compact) required
  • Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, Secure/CPI (nationally recognized/JCAHO accepted), NIHSS, and TNCC
  • First-time travelers considered with at least 2 years of Cerner or Epic experience and Level I or II Trauma experience, or 3+ years of Level III Trauma experience at a 300+ bed facility
  • Experienced travelers need at least 2 years of critical care experience (ICU or ER) with the most recent year in a Level I or II ER
  • Cerner or Epic experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Provide emergency care across a wide range of trauma and acute patient conditions
  • Orientation for new or returning travelers (gone 1+ year) includes 24 hours classroom time and 24 hours on unit
  • Rehire orientation length depends on last date worked at facility
  • Holiday coverage required for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy
  • Facility maintains annual blackout dates restricting RTO approval during those periods
  • Up to 7 days of time off can be pre-approved excluding blackout dates
  • Scrubs: any solid color accepted
  • Parking available in a parking garage
  • Must reside outside a 60-mile radius of the facility to be eligible
  • Former perm staff must wait 6 months before being considered as a traveler
