Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Emergency Department RN for a Level 1 trauma center, requiring TNCC/TNS and PALS/ENPC certifications along with 2+ years of ED experience.

Details

• Level 1 trauma center Emergency Department with 65 all-private beds, including 2 trauma bays
• Evening shift, 3P-3A, 12-hour shifts, 48 guaranteed hours per week
• 26-week assignment
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3-5 based on acuity
• Cares for a wide range of patients from newborns to elderly, including critical, cardiac arrest, stroke, and stabilized trauma patients
• Titrates vasopressor, cardiac, and antihypertensive drips
• Uses EPIC EMR
• ED techs support at a 1:9 ratio, with respiratory therapists assisting with vent/CPAP/BiPAP/high flow equipment
• Philips cardiac monitors used with monitor tech support; training provided
• Every other weekend rotation required (Fri/Sat or Sat/Sun depending on shift)
• Every other holiday required, negotiable based on contract
• No call or standby requirements
• Rare floating possible as a 'help all' to other units, not as primary team nurse

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required, or must have application process initiated
• BLS, ACLS certifications required
• TNCC or TNS certification required
• PALS or ENPC certification required
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience preferred
• Prior travel assignment experience preferred
• SANE RN experience preferred
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Must produce a negative drug screen for all panels

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care in a high-acuity Level 1 trauma emergency department
• Travelers may care for trauma patients once stabilized and transferred out of the trauma bay, but are not typically assigned as primary trauma bay nurse
• Nurses must be able to interpret and act on cardiac rhythms independently
• Two charge nurses per shift handle incoming patients/radios and departmental needs, occasionally assisting with traumas or critical patients
• 24/7 house supervisor coverage
• Radiology staff or transport handle patient transport for X-ray or CT
• Nurses and techs draw labs; phlebotomy assists with boarder patients at times
• Scrubs must be tasteful with solid colored shirts underneath; no specific color required
• 12-hour non-billable orientation provided, guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation
• Local rate applies for clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility
• No radius requirement for eligibility
• First-time travelers considered with sufficient nursing experience
