Emergency Room Nurse Job Requirements

• At least 2 years of recent emergency department nursing experience
• At least 1 year of critical care nursing experience
• Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license appropriate for practice in Maine
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications
• Ability to meet all required license, background, and travel assignment screening requirements
• Willingness and ability to serve in charge nurse and preceptor roles as needed
• Strong clinical judgment, communication, and patient-care skills in a high-acuity emergency care environment

Emergency Department RN Responsibilities

• Provide direct and indirect patient care using the nursing process throughout the emergency visit
• Assess patients upon admission and monitor changes in condition throughout their stay
• Administer IV medications, therapies, and blood products according to orders and established protocols
• Deliver patient and family education tailored to individual needs and conditions
• Accurately document assessments, nursing interventions, education, observations, and patient responses
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to support timely evaluation, treatment, and patient disposition
• Support emergency and chest pain care processes while maintaining patient safety and quality standards
• Assume charge nurse and preceptor responsibilities when assigned
