  • Department Environment: High-volume emergency department with approximately 101 beds and typical patient ratios of 4:1, with ratios up to 7:1 for behavioral health holds
  • Technology: Cerner documentation, GE monitors, and Baxter pumps
  • Scheduling: Every other weekend required; must be flexible to meet department needs and work throughout all areas of the emergency department

Emergency Department RN Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in North Carolina
  • At least 2 years of nursing experience, including a minimum of 1 year of recent Emergency Department experience
  • Experience in a Level II trauma center, comprehensive stroke center, or high-volume emergency department strongly preferred
  • ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC, NIHSS, and ENPC certifications required before submission
  • CPI certification required before the first day of employment
  • Strong teamwork, communication, coaching, and real-time feedback skills
  • Ability to provide flexible coverage across all sections of the Emergency Department
  • Commitment to respectful, patient-centered emergency care and effective communication with patients and families
  • Navy scrubs required

Emergency Room Registered Nurse Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, timely, and compassionate nursing care to emergency department patients with a wide range of acuity levels
  • Perform comprehensive nursing assessments, prioritize care, and respond rapidly to changes in patient condition
  • Support the care of trauma, stroke, medical, behavioral health, and other emergency patients
  • Collaborate with providers, nurses, technicians, clerical staff, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care
  • Administer medications and treatments, monitor patient responses, and document care accurately in Cerner
  • Maintain clear communication with patients and families, including keeping patients informed throughout their emergency department visit
  • Demonstrate flexibility by working in all areas of the Emergency Department as department needs require
  • Contribute to a positive team culture known for welcoming personalities, strong collaboration, and service to a diverse community
