Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring at least 2 years of critical care/ED experience and an active AL or compact RN license.

Details

  • Work in a 32-40 bed Emergency Department at a 176-bed acute care hospital
  • Combined adult and pediatric general ED population including diabetes, HTN, cardiac, and respiratory distress cases
  • Patient ratio of 1:4
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a), 36 hours per week on a 36/48 schedule
  • Schedule cycle includes every other weekend with two Mondays and two Fridays every 6 weeks
  • No floating required
  • No on-call requirements
  • Charge nurse support available but not included in patient assignment
  • Phlebotomy support most days and PICC/IV team available on day shift only
  • No dedicated telemetry monitoring tech; RNs required to read/measure tele strips
  • EMR: Cerner; IV pumps: Plum 360; medication dispensing via Omnicell; monitors: Spacelabs

Requirements

  • Active RN license (AL or Compact) required
  • Minimum 2 years critical care experience (ICU or ED) required, with ED Level III or higher experience
  • Cerner or Epic EMR experience required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and CPI or similar (online accepted)
  • TNCC certification preferred
  • Skilled in chest tube, arterial line, and central line care/management
  • Experience with trach care, intubation/extubation, and conscious sedation
  • Skilled in IV therapy, nasogastric insertion/management, Foley insertion/management, and splinting

Additional Information

  • Perform a wide range of ED procedures including advanced airway, line management, and wound care
  • New hires or those with less than 1 year of experience receive 24 hours classroom and 24 hours unit orientation
  • Holiday expectations include coverage for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy
  • Up to 7 days of time off can be pre-approved excluding published blackout dates
  • Scrubs may be any color; T-shirts and hoodies are not permitted
  • Must reside outside a 60-mile radius of the facility to be eligible for the travel position
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply if they meet the minimum experience requirements
  • Former permanent staff must wait 6 months before being considered as a traveler at this facility
