Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurse to join our team for a 15-week contract providing holiday coverage. This position requires expertise in managing high-acuity patients in a large volume emergency department setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform patient assessments and develop care plans in high-pressure situations.
• Manage the administration of medications, including barcode scanning and medication drips.
• Administer blood products and assist with trauma and code cases.
• Triage patients and stabilize them for transfer, ensuring compliance with hospital Triage Test standards.
• Set up chest tubes and arterial lines as needed.
• Implement splinting and provide respiratory support through BiPAP/ventilation.
• Utilize Point of Care Labs for diagnostic purposes.
• Maintain a good understanding of Emergency Severity Index (ESI) for prioritizing patient care.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a large volume emergency department with high acuity patients.
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS or ENPC, and TNCC.
• Pediatric emergency medicine experience is highly preferred.
• Proficient in managing a variety of patient types, from neonates to geriatrics, within a Level III trauma setting.
• Experience with Epic EMR is required.

Shift Information

• Days: 7a-7p, 9a-9p
• Mids: 10a-10p, 11a-11p, 12p-12a, 1p-1a, 2p-2a
• Eves: 3p-3a
• Nights: 7p-7a

Patient Ratios

The patient-to-nurse ratio varies from 1:3 to 1:5 based on patient acuity. The emergency department is organized into zones, including a fast track area with 13 beds.

Location

This position is located in a non-profit community hospital situated in a region renowned for its busy emergency department, handling 200-250 patients per day.
