Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Emergency Department Registered Nurse to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment.

Unit Information

• Beds: 32
• Average Patients per Day: 90-110

Qualifications

• Minimum Experience:
  • Traditional Traveler: 2+ years of Emergency Department experience
  • CAP: 4 years minimum
• First-Time Travelers: Not accepted
• Licenses and Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, TNCC, MOAB 1&2 or CPI

Patient Care

The Emergency Department handles a variety of patient types and common diagnoses including:

• General ED complaints
• Abdominal pain
• Chest pain
• Shortness of breath (SOB)
• Behavioral health patients
• Geriatric patients
• Occasional labor and delivery (L&D)

Staffing Ratios

• Registered Nurses: 1:4
• Patient Care Technicians: 1:6-12

Support and Resources

The department is equipped with numerous support staff to enhance patient care, including:

• Patient Care Technicians (PCT)
• Receptionist/Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) available 24/7
• Respiratory Therapists (RT) available 24/7
• Hospitalist support 24/7
• Emergency Department doctors and mid-level providers
• Phlebotomy services for lab draws: offered by nurses and technicians

Technology and Equipment

• Electronic Medical Record (EMR): EPIC
• IV Pump: Alaris
• Medication Dispensing: Pyxis

Orientation and Training

New hires will undergo an orientation program including:

• General hospital orientation
• 1-2 shifts on the unit with support followed by 2-3 independent shifts
• CAP candidates will work "in the numbers" for 2-3 weeks to learn unit flow before being paired with a resident

Scheduling Details

• Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend
• Holiday Expectations: As needed per unit requirements
• Request Time Off (RTO): Up to 7 days, with additional requests handled via email to Nurse Manager
