This facility is a 123-bed hospital and a Level 3 Trauma Center located in Spokane Valley, WA. It serves a smaller community while providing comprehensive emergency services.
General Information
- Total Beds: 21 beds, with additional space for 8 hallway and 5 fast track patients.
- Years of Experience: Minimum of 2 years in the Emergency Department required; 5 years preferred in specialty.
- First-Time Travelers: Accepted.
Patient Demographics
- Patient Types: Geriatric population, abdominal pain, chest pain, stroke, psychiatric issues, respiratory conditions, and approximately 15% pediatric cases.
- Patient Ratios: 1 nurse to 4 patients, organized in pods with 8 patients managed by 3 nurses.
Required Skills
- Thrombolytic therapy (TNK)
- Conscious sedation
- Chest tubes management
- Central lines insertion
Licensure and Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) or Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
Unit Support
- Technicians: 3 available on day shifts and night shifts, trained in phlebotomy and able to perform peripheral sticks.
- Support Staff: 24-7 receptionist and healthcare unit coordinator available.
- Resource Support: Critical care and departmental floats are available if needed.
- Respiratory Therapy: Available 24-7.
- Hospitalist Coverage: 24-7 availability.
- Telemetry Monitoring: Provided both at the bedside and at the nurse’s station.
Technology/Equipment
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR) System: EPIC (mandatory).
- IV Pumps: Alaris.
- Medication Dispensing: Pyxis system.
Orientation and Scheduling
- Orientation Duration: 1 week, including NEO, EPIC training, skills assessment, general site orientation, and up to 3 precepted shifts.
- Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend.
- Holiday Expectation: 1 holiday per contract period.
- Request Time Off (RTO): Approval available for up to 7 days.
- Shift Types:
- Days: Various shifts (7a-7p, 7a-3p, 8a-4p, 9a-7p)
- Mid-shifts: Various shifts (10-10, 11-11, 12-12, 1-1, 3-3, 4p-2a)
- Nights: 7p-7a
Additional Information
- Scrub Color: Any professional color is acceptable.
- Parking: Free for all personnel.
- Cardiac Procedures: Interventional radiology available for procedures, but all cardiac catheterization patients will be transferred to a nearby facility as the local center does not operate a 24-hour cath lab.
