Oncology Patient Care Unit Registered Nurse (RN)

Unit Information

This position is within a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) focusing on adult oncology and trauma patients.

Number of Beds: 18
Charge Nurse Experience: Required, but not mandatory

Experience Requirements

Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience is required.
First-time travelers are accepted.
Strong PCU experience is preferred, but oncology experience is also beneficial.

Certifications

BLS (Basic Life Support) - Required
ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) - Required
ONS/ONCC certification - Current preferred, not required

Patient Ratios

Days: 1 nurse to 4-5 patients
Nights: 1 nurse to 4-5 patients

Shifts

12-hour shifts
Schedule: 0630 AM - 700 PM and 0630 PM - 700 AM
Required to work every other weekend
Self-scheduling available, balanced to unit needs

Floating

Travelers may float to other Med/Surg and PCU units; assignments will maintain the same level of care.

Orientation

Two days of unit orientation provided.

Drips & Skills

Travelers should be comfortable managing the following common drips and medications:

Chemotherapy
Heparin
Cardizem
Protonix
Occasional titration of Insulin and Cardizem drips

Respiratory Equipment

Travelers will commonly encounter high-flow oxygen equipment.

Charge Nurse
Physical and Occupational Therapists
RN Case Manager
Social Worker
Educator
Dietitian

Patient Experience

Hourly rounding and bedside shift report are key components of the patient experience focus.

Cancellation Policy

The facility may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment, or 3 shifts for assignments shorter than 13 weeks.

The electronic medical record system used is EPIC.

Additional Requirements

A valid driver's license is necessary for submission, and it will be utilized to confirm the candidate's location in relation to the facility.
