Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to provide exceptional patient care in a dynamic emergency department setting. This position requires critical care experience, particularly in intensive care or emergency department environments.

Facility Information

Location: Montgomery, AL

Bed Capacity: 32 beds, with potential for up to 40 beds utilizing hallway beds.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in a fast-paced emergency department.
  • Manage various patient types including those with diabetes, hypertension, cardiac conditions, and respiratory distress.
  • Perform assessment and triage of patients effectively and efficiently.
  • Administer medications and treatments as per hospital protocols.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful patient outcomes.

Patient Care Ratios

Maintain a patient care ratio of 1:4, ensuring each patient receives attention and high-quality care.

Required Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) or similar
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) - preferred

Essential Skills

  • Chest tube insertion and management
  • Arterial line care
  • Central line care and management
  • Tracheostomy care
  • Intubation and extubation
  • Conscious sedation administration
  • Intravenous (IV) therapy
  • Nasogastric tube insertion and management
  • Foley catheter insertion and management
  • Splinting and related emergency procedures

Unit Support

  • CNA support is not applicable.
  • Receptionist available during daytime hours.
  • Phlebotomy services available most days.
  • PICC Team members available during day shifts only.
  • Hospitalist services provided.
  • Nurses are required to read and interpret telemetry strips.

Technology and Equipment

  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Cerner
  • IV Pumps: Plum 360
  • Medication Dispensing: Omnicell
  • Monitors: Spacelabs

Orientation and Training

New hires will undergo 24 hours of classroom training followed by 24 hours of on-unit experience. Rehires will complete orientation based on their last date of employment.

Scheduling and Availability

  • Weekend rotation: Every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month on a block schedule.
  • Holiday Expectations: One major and one minor seasonal holiday as per policy.
  • Shift times may vary and include options such as 7a-7p, 7p-7a, 11a-11p, and 3p-3a.
  • Approval for time off can be made for up to 7 days, excluding blackout dates.

  • Scrub Colors: Any solid color is acceptable, excluding T-shirts or hoodies.
  • Parking is designated for staff use.
