Join a leading acute-care hospital as a dedicated RN in the Emergency Department (ER) in State College, PA. This contract position offers the opportunity to provide professional nursing care based on current nursing knowledge through the use of the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) standards. You will be responsible for assessing patient needs, developing care plans, implementing nursing interventions, and evaluating patient care outcomes for a diverse age population, from neonates to geriatrics.

This position is subject to scheduled on-call assignments as needed, influenced by community events affecting Emergency Department patient volumes. Preference will be given to candidates with EPIC Computer Charting Experience.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Effectively functions as a team member and as a liaison between patient and staff.
  • Supports and encourages harmonious communication skills.
  • Strong verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Communicates in a highly professional manner at all times.
  • Demonstrates a high level of mental and emotional tolerance when dealing with patients; uses tact, sensitivity, sound judgment, and a professional attitude.

License/Certification/Registration:

  • Current Pennsylvania RN licensure.
  • Meets the American Heart Association's standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years.
  • Meets the American Heart Association's standards for Healthcare Provider Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and renews ACLS every two years.
  • Meets the American Heart Association's standards for Healthcare Provider Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and renews PALS every two years.
  • Valid National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Triages every patient entering the emergency care system and determines priorities of care based on physical and psycho-social needs.
  • Develops and implements a plan of care based on ongoing assessments, ensuring that supplies and equipment for emergency patient care are readily available and in working order.
  • Manages all types of complications and emergencies per facility policies and procedures and ENA standards.
  • Implements health education for Emergency Department patients and their families, assisting them with accurate information on health status and referrals.

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Performs related and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
