Registered Nurse (RN) - Emergency Department

Position Description

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Emergency Department team for a 13-week contract. This position involves working in a high-acuity environment, where the ability to respond quickly and effectively is essential.

Unit Information

The Emergency Department spans a total of 30 beds and is staffed by a collaborative team that includes:

  • 49 Full-Time Equivalents (FTE)
  • 6 PRN staff members
  • 2 Leadership roles

Staffing Structure

Staffing during shifts is as follows:

  • Day Shift: 1 Charge Nurse (CNC), 7-10 RNs based on volume forecast, 2 Patient Care Technicians (PCT)/Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), 1 Unit Secretary (US)
  • Night Shift: 1 Charge Nurse (CNC), 7-10 RNs based on volume forecast, 1 PCT/EMT, 1 US

Patient-Centered Care

The patient ratios are maximized at 1:5, dependent on patient acuity. The ED is equipped with advanced monitoring systems, defibrillators, ultrasound machines, and EKG machines to ensure high-quality patient care.

Electronic Medical Records

The department currently utilizes Meditech for Electronic Medical Records (EMR), with a transition to Expanse scheduled for August 13, 2026.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Required Skills:
    • Advanced critical thinking and clinical skills
    • Extensive experience in trauma care, STEMI, stroke, and sepsis management
  • Preferred Skills:
    • Experience in both adult and pediatric emergency care
    • Completion of certifications related to HCA Nurse Contract and Pool

Typical Procedures

Common procedures performed in this unit include:

  • Thoracotomy
  • Arterial line placement and Massive Transfusion Protocol (MTP)

The ideal candidate should exhibit qualities such as flexibility, accountability, reliability, and a strong ability to work as part of a team.

Required Certifications

Candidates must possess the following certifications:

  • Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC)
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) with Trauma-Informed Care (TIC)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and STABLE (a plus)

Floating Areas

There may be a need to float to two free-standing emergency departments as necessary.

Dress Code

Employees are required to wear royal blue scrubs in accordance with the dress code policy.

Work Schedule

Ideal candidates should be available to work alternate weekends, contributing to the efficient function of the Emergency Department.

Experience Requirements

Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in a fast-paced emergency department setting is required.
