Emergency Department RN Job Details

  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,020–$2,130

  • Shift Duration: 12-hour shifts
  • Schedule: Days, evenings, and nights may rotate based on department needs; night assignments do not rotate
  • Patient-to-Nurse Ratio: Approximately 1:4
  • Average Emergency Department Volume: Approximately 230 visits per day
  • Electronic Medical Record: Epic ASAP
  • Floating: May be required to the 16-bed Emergency Department Observation area and Acute Mental Health area

Emergency Department Registered Nurse Requirements

  • At least 2 years of recent Emergency Department nursing experience
  • Current Registered Nurse license eligible for practice in Massachusetts
  • Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Current AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
  • Strong patient assessment, prioritization, communication, and critical-thinking skills
  • Ability to work rotating shifts and float within designated emergency care areas
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certifications are strongly preferred

Emergency Department RN Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, compassionate nursing care to emergency patients of all ages and acuity levels
  • Perform focused and comprehensive patient assessments, prioritize care, and recognize changes in patient condition
  • Start and manage IV therapy, perform phlebotomy, obtain EKGs, and complete point-of-care testing
  • Monitor cardiac rhythms and promptly communicate clinically significant findings
  • Assist with splinting, emergency interventions, patient education, and discharge preparation
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in Epic ASAP
  • Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to support efficient patient flow and quality outcomes
  • Provide care in the Emergency Department Observation and Acute Mental Health areas when assigned
