CVOR Surgical Technologist
We are looking for an experienced Surgical Technologist to join the CVOR team. This role is responsible for supporting surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, maintaining a sterile field, assisting the surgical team, and ensuring all necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment are available for each case.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the scrub tech during CVOR and other surgical procedures.
- Prepare and organize sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment for each case.
- Perform surgical counts with the circulating RN according to policy.
- Maintain a sterile field and follow proper aseptic technique throughout procedures.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team and provide instruments and supplies as needed.
- Assist with sterile draping, surgical skin preparation, clipping, and urinary catheter placement when required.
- Properly collect, label, and handle surgical specimens.
- Communicate implanted devices, drains, catheters, packing, and other important information to the circulating RN.
- Assist with room turnover, cleaning, and preparation of instruments and equipment.
- Follow all patient safety, quality, infection prevention, and surgical policies.
- Assist with CPR and emergency procedures as needed.
- Participate in ongoing education, competency training, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Assist with orientation and training of new staff and students when assigned.
- Maintain flexibility with staffing, scheduling, and department needs.
- Participate in on-call coverage as scheduled and be available within the required response time.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree, vocational certificate, or military certificate in Surgical Technology.
- At least 1 year of perioperative, operating room, or related military surgical technology experience preferred.
- Current CST certification through NBSTSA or NCCT required.
- TS-C certification is not accepted for Surgical Technologist positions in Cincinnati.
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association required at hire for applicable locations.
- Strong knowledge of sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, and operating room procedures.
- CVOR experience is strongly preferred.
The ideal candidate is a dependable and detail-oriented Surgical Technologist who is comfortable working in a fast-paced operating room environment, understands sterile technique, can anticipate the needs of the surgical team, and works well with surgeons, nurses, and other OR staff. CVOR experience and strong knowledge of cardiac surgical procedures and instrumentation are highly preferred.
