Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) Scrub Technician – Travel Assignment

Encompass Healthcare Staffing is seeking an experienced Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) Scrub Technician for a travel assignment with one of our valued acute care hospital clients. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly skilled cardiovascular surgical team while expanding your experience in a fast-paced, high-acuity operating room environment.

Position Summary

The CVOR Scrub Technician provides advanced surgical support during complex cardiovascular, thoracic, and vascular procedures. Working under the direction of the Registered Nurse and alongside the surgical team, this role is responsible for maintaining the sterile field, preparing specialized instrumentation, and anticipating the surgeon's needs throughout each procedure.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare the cardiovascular operating room with specialized cardiac instrumentation, bypass equipment, and procedure-specific supplies.
• Maintain an organized and sterile surgical field throughout each procedure.
• Scrub and assist during a variety of cardiovascular procedures, including but not limited to:
  • Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG)
  • Valve Repair and Replacement
  • Aortic Aneurysm Repair
  • Carotid Endarterectomy
  • Pacemaker and ICD Implantation
• Prepare and assist with cardiovascular implants and specialized devices, including vascular grafts, heart valves, and intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) equipment.
• Anticipate the surgeon's needs during critical portions of each procedure, including initiation and separation from cardiopulmonary bypass.
• Accurately prepare, label, and manage medications and sterile solutions utilized during cardiovascular procedures.
• Properly identify, label, and manage surgical specimens according to established protocols.
• Maintain readiness for emergency cardiovascular procedures and unexpected surgical conversions.
• Safely operate specialty operating room equipment, including Cell Saver systems, fluoroscopy (C-Arm), and patient temperature management equipment.
• Perform surgical counts according to facility policy.
• Participate in surgical "Time Out" procedures and all patient safety initiatives.
• Assist with efficient room turnover and preparation for subsequent cases.
• Promptly communicate any concerns regarding sterility, instrumentation, or equipment functionality to the circulating nurse.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
• Minimum 2 years of recent CVOR Scrub Technician experience in an acute care hospital.
• Demonstrated experience scrubbing complex cardiovascular procedures.
• Current BLS Certification required.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred.
• Strong knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, surgical instrumentation, sterile technique, and patient safety standards.
• Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity surgical environment while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.

Working Conditions

• Participation in an on-call rotation, including nights, weekends, and holidays, may be required based on the needs of the assignment.
• Frequent standing for extended periods and assisting with patient positioning.
• Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, radiation, and surgical equipment consistent with an operating room environment.
