Registered Nurse (RN) - Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR)
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in the Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) to join our team. This role involves a combination of circulating and scrubbing duties in a fast-paced environment, focusing primarily on cardiac procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in accordance with established protocols in the CVOR.
- Assist in all aspects of surgical procedures, including prepping and circulating during cardiac, vascular, and general surgeries.
- Manage patient flow and ensure efficient turnovers, with an expectation of less than 20 minutes between cases.
- Utilize specialized equipment and technologies, including Davinci robots and neuro navigation tools.
- Participate in the holiday rotation and on-call schedule as needed.
- Float across multiple locations within the region as required.
Unit Information
- Patient Ratios: 1:1
- Bed Size: 16
- Average Caseload: 35-50 cases per day
- Service Lines: Cardiac/PV, Neuro, Orthopedic Trauma, Robotics, General, Gyn, Uro, Pediatric, and Transplant surgeries.
Orientation Schedule
The orientation for this position will include:
- 2-3 weeks in general OR rooms to become familiar with the department.
- 2 weeks circulating and scrubbing in vascular cases.
- Transition to circulating heart cases, with opportunities for shadowing and scrubbing as confidence builds.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 24 months of current/recent operating room experience.
- Proficient experience in cardiac, vascular, and thoracic procedures.
- General surgery circulating experience is required.
- Experience with electronic medical records systems (EPIC) within the past three years.
- Preferred trauma Level I experience; trauma Level II experience is required.
- Must have completed a travel assignment within the last 15 months.
- Required scrub experience, including open-heart scrubbing.
Licensure and Certifications
- Active Iowa nursing license or compact/multistate license is required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA is required.
