Job Summary
Operating Room Open Heart (OR OH) Nurse in Oak Lawn This position involves providing specialized surgical nursing care within the operating room for adult cardiac procedures, including open heart surgeries and hybrid interventions. The role requires work in a Level I Trauma Center with comprehensive stroke and hybrid operating room capabilities, supporting a wide range of complex cases with a focus on adult patients.
Job Details
- Location: Oak Lawn, IL
- Shift Schedule: 6:45 AM 3:15 PM, 2:45 PM 7:15 PM, 10:45 PM 7:15 AM; 3x 12-hour shifts, with a rotating schedule every 6 weeks
- Position Description: Provides perioperative nursing care for adult cardiac and hybrid procedures, including open heart surgeries, TAVR, AAA repairs, and endarterectomies. Supports trauma, transplant, vascular, neuro, and general cases.
- Required Qualifications: Registered Nurse (RN) license; 3 years of acute care experience, including trauma and critical care; experience in adult cardiac surgery, ability to scrub and circulate, critical care background preferred; EPIC EMR experience required.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with hybrid IR patient types and Siemens equipment preferred.
- Skills Required: Ability to scrub and circulate on adult open-heart cases, trauma experience at a Level I or II trauma center, capability to perform surgical assisting roles, and familiarity with EPIC.
- Support Within Department: Charge nurse support (no patient assignment), bedside monitoring by anesthesiologists, resource nurses, surgeon support, educator, service line representatives, and EPIC super-user.
- Technology/Equipment: EPIC electronic medical records, Alaris infusion pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Siemens equipment for hybrid procedures.
- Orientation: Day 1 includes meeting educators, obtaining login access, and online modules; subsequent days involve unit orientation and hands-on training.
- Scheduling: Flexible, based on a 6-week rotation with no self-scheduling, including weekend coverage every 4th weekend; holiday coverage required.
- Other Notes: Scrub color provided, free parking available, OR operates 24/7, closures for trauma and urgent cases after hours, and all on-call team members must respond within 30 minutes.
