Description

American Traveler is seeking an RN for a Cardiovascular ICU position requiring MD or Compact license, 2 years of CVICU experience, and rotating day/night shifts.

Details

  • Work in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) of a hospital setting
  • Adult and geriatric patient population
  • 15 beds with an average daily census of 10
  • Patient ratios of 1:1, up to 1:3 for stable, lower acuity patients
  • Common diagnoses include cardiogenic shock, cardiac arrest, heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias, MI, PH, advanced therapy workups (LVAD, heart transplant), and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
  • Performs bedside central/A-line insertions, bronchoscopy, chest tube insertion, Swan/PA cath insertion, targeted temperature management, and CRRT
  • Uses specialized equipment including Impella, VAD, IABP, CRRT, ventilators, cooling devices, and CCO monitors
  • Rotating 3x12 day/night shifts (7:00-19:00 / 19:00-7:30)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Holiday coverage required as scheduled
  • Floating required within specialty to lower acuity units as needed
  • On-call requirements may apply
  • Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

  • Active RN license (MD state or Compact) required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA only)
  • CPI certification required
  • NIHSS certification preferred
  • CCRN certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience required
  • First-time travelers with strong CVICU skill and experience will be considered
  • Charge nurse experience preferred
  • Teaching hospital and community hospital experience preferred
  • Trauma Level I and II experience preferred
  • Skilled in arterial line management, central line care, PICC line management, IV therapy, and blood product administration
  • Experience with ventilator management, ABG interpretation, and care of the ventilated patient
  • Experience managing patients with AKI, CRRT/CVVHD, and renal complications
  • Experience with cardiac drip titration, vasoactive drip titration, and dysrhythmia management
  • Experience with post cardiac surgery care, IABP, Impella, and TAVR preferred
  • Experience with epicardial pacing wire care, ECMO care, and nurse-driven ECMO protocols preferred

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing to complex cardiovascular patients requiring advanced hemodynamic monitoring and mechanical circulatory support
  • Collaborate with a specialized cardiovascular critical care team
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Candidates must reside 50+ miles from the facility to qualify for travel rate unless locals are otherwise accepted
  • Maximum of 7 days RTO may be requested, with additional restrictions if more than 4 consecutive days are requested
  • One major holiday off during the winter season may be permitted depending on scheduling needs
  • Returning travelers must have been away from the health system for at least 6 months before reapplying
  • Former staff must wait 12 months before returning as a traveler
  • Most contracts allow one extension, after which a 6-month break from the facility is required before returning
  • Travelers are expected to float within scope with no restrictions and are prioritized for floating assignments
  • First-time travelers with strong CVICU experience are welcome to apply
