Description

American Traveler is seeking a CVICU RN with 2+ years of cardiovascular ICU experience and immediate open-heart post-op experience for a night shift assignment requiring an active MD or Compact RN license.

Details

  • CVICU setting with 6 beds and an average daily census of 3-5 patients
  • 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio
  • Patient population includes post-op cardiac surgery (CABG, MVR, AVR), structural heart procedures (TAVR, mitral clips), STEMI/NSTEMI, cardiogenic shock, and Inari procedures
  • Manages complex post-op cardiac patients requiring inotropic support, open chest management, OHS/Impella, ECMO, CRRT, and IABP
  • Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours from 19:00-07:30 with possible rotation to 11a-11p shifts based on unit needs
  • Required to work every third weekend with potential for additional weekend coverage
  • Holiday coverage required as scheduled
  • Floating to MSICU required as needed
  • On-call requirement of 24-36 hours per rotating 6-week schedule
  • Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

  • Active MD or Compact RN license required
  • BLS, ACLS, CPI, and NIHSS certifications required
  • OCN and TNCC certifications preferred
  • PALS certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience required
  • Immediate post-op open heart experience required
  • Experience with 1:1-2 patient ratios required
  • Epic charting system experience required
  • Teaching hospital and community hospital experience preferred
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred
  • Skills required include arterial line management, central line care, blood product administration, and IV therapy
  • Skills required include ventilator management, ABG interpretation, and care of ventilated patients
  • Skills required include CVP monitoring, IABP, Impella, and post cardiac surgery care
  • Skills required include titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips and continuous IV sedation management
  • Skills required include dysrhythmia interpretation and management and 12-lead EKG acquisition

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing to complex post-op cardiac surgery patients including those on ECMO, Impella, and IABP
  • Manage patients with hemodynamic instability, extreme coagulopathy, and open chest status in the immediate post-op period
  • Perfusionist and dialysis services available on-site to support ECMO and CRRT care
  • Travelers are expected to float within scope with no restrictions and are prioritized for floating assignments
  • Local candidates accepted at a reduced local travel rate
  • First-time travelers welcome to apply if they have direct CVICU and immediate open-heart post-op experience
  • Max RTO request of 7 days, with additional week required on back end for requests of more than 4 consecutive days
  • Returning staff must be separated from the health system for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
  • Returning travelers must be away from the system for at least 6 months post-assignment before returning
