Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU position requiring CA licensure and prior travel experience in a fast-paced, high-acuity cardiac care setting.

Details

  • Work in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) of a community hospital
  • 1:2 patient ratio caring for complex cardiovascular ICU patients
  • Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM-7:30 AM), Sunday-Saturday scheduling
  • Block scheduling of Friday/Saturday/Sunday available upon request
  • Required to work 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week cycle, including at least one holiday weekend
  • May float to like units or lower acuity units (excluding the ED) across the health system's 5 hospitals, at or below skillset
  • Uses Epic EMR system

Requirements

  • Active CA RN license in hand at time of consideration (Temp or Perm, no EMSA)
  • Current AHA certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS required (CRRT, LVAD, and TNCC preferred)
  • Minimum 2 years of CVICU-specific experience, with experience in a CVICU within the last year
  • 1.5 years of continuous specialty experience with no unexplained breaks
  • Prior travel nursing experience required, including 1 year total travel experience and 6+ months of continuous travel experience leading up to consideration
  • Epic or combined Epic/Cerner experience required within the last 6 months of work history
  • Community hospital experience required; teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred
  • Skilled in arterial line management, central line care, IV therapy, blood product administration, and PICC line management
  • Experience with ventilator management, ABG interpretation, chest tube assistance, and BiPAP/CPAP management
  • Cardiovascular specialty skills including CABG, ECMO, IABP, Impella, TAVR, valve repair/replacement, and Swan-Ganz monitoring
  • Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips and managing dysrhythmias
  • 1 supervisory-level professional reference required for consideration
  • Valid, non-expired copies of all required AHA certifications required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care to cardiovascular ICU patients, including post cardiac surgery, cardiac catheterization, and mechanical circulatory support cases
  • Care for patients requiring ECMO, LVAD/RVAD, IABP, and Impella support under nurse-driven protocols
  • Manage patients with acute/chronic renal failure requiring CRRT/CVVHD
  • Holiday coverage required, including the assigned holiday weekend
  • Must reside outside a 100-mile radius of the facility to be eligible, except for LVNs/MAs
  • Candidates who have been on assignment in San Diego for 9+ months are considered local and not eligible
  • First-time travelers are not eligible for this position
  • Returning staff or travelers must wait 1 year before reapplying
  • Maximum 7 days of requested time off (RTO) allowed, with no additional requests after consideration
